Recent
research from the University of Otago shows that children who are active in the
early stages of development, go onto be active as teenagers and young adults.
Kids
Karate is a new class designed specifically for 4-7year olds. Students
are taught the basic techniques of karate in a fun and active environment.
Activities are designed to encourage balance, flexibility, hand-eye co-ordination, concentration and confidence.
Students
remain in the Kids Karate School class until they have grasped the fundamentals of basic
karate techniques and are ready to join the mixed class (usually once they have
achieved their full orange belt or from 7 years and over).
There are 10 learner levels which may take from
18-24
months to master before graduating to the mixed class as an orange belt.
Students are awarded merit belts which prepares them for the formal Japanese
"kyu" grade system. Class roll is
limited to a maximum of 20 students. Student to instructor ratio in this
class is approximately 4-1 (four students to every one instructor or assistant
instructor).
Parents/caregivers
are welcome to stay while the class is running to watch and
support their children in this active environment.
